My team created a new design system, unifying existing systems across the company. I coordinated a group of visual designers, interaction designers and a design researcher to craft and build the design system. I helped develop communication plans, processes and road maps in addition to designing and developing individual components.
I worked on components for data visualizations. I met with front-end developers across the company to align on a charting library, and we agreed on chart.js. I built and styled demo charts, consulting our visual design team.
We were transparent about the status of components in the design system. We tracked our work in Jira and posted links to open tasks on the page. This transparency empowered the development community to co-create these components with us.
All components were WCAG compliant, and component documentation included accessibility guidance. When possible, customer feedback was also included in documentation to explain rationale behind design decisions.
The documentation templates I created were utilized throughout the site for other components.
